Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) Injections
Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) is a blood based treatment that is used to promote healing and regeneration. The treatment is autologous, meaning it comes from your own body. The treatment consists of taking one's own blood and spinning it in a machine called a centrifuge. The centrifuge separates the blood and leaves behind a plasma suspension that is rich in white blood cells, platelets, stem cells, leukocytes, and immune cytokines. This plasma is a potent healing booster that is extremely effective in allowing the body to heal and remodel itself naturally. This plasma allows new cells to grow and generate in an injured and damaged area of the body, and it turns on dormant cells that are already in the injured area to work properly once again. This results in pain relief and a natural regeneration of new tissue. PRF is different from Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) in that it is spun at a lower speed. This process leaves behind more stem cells and white blood cells. This is what allows PRF solution to have greater healing properties than PRP. PRF is considered an enhanced and a newer version of PRP. It is the only injection currently available that has natural healing properties and is not solely used for the purpose of pain relief. It also has anti-inflammatory effects like a corticosteroid injection but the pain relief is not as instantaneous (PRF injections take 6 weeks to set in). The difference is that the pain relief and benefits of a PRF injection can last up to 12 months as opposed to 6 months with a steroid injection and without the known potential side effects of corticosteroid injections. PRF is an effective treatment for those with arthritis, back pain, ACL tears, ITB syndrome, plantar fasciitis, rotator cuff tears, shin splints, and tendon issues such as tennis elbow and golfer's elbow.
All PRF injections are provided here at our practice by our partner and licensed family nurse practitioner Brittany Raines, MSN, FNP-C, owner of the Healing Injectionist, LLC for $450/treatment.
